The 27th Annual Balcones Heights Jazz Festival has been postponed -

The Jazz festival original slated for four Friday nights in July, has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID 19/novel coronavirus pandemic and continued uncertainty of public events in months ahead.

City officials say the concert series, which typically attracts more than 3,000 jazz lovers to each of the concerts held at Wonderland of the Americas’ hillside amphitheater, will be rescheduled.

Mayor Suzanne de Leon while disappointed with the postponement is optimistic that when the event does indeed take place, it will be bigger and better than ever.  “Public safety, social distancing and the ongoing questions, make postponing our only real option.”

Lorenzo Nastasi, Balcones Heights Director of Economic Development and Public Affairs explains that beyond public health and safety concerns, there is also the dollars and cents.

“Adding to the uncertainty of the pandemic and its unknown duration, is the question of artist contracts, travel arrangements, sponsorships, and a host of other logistical and production details that are impossible to put on hold until the last minute,” Nastasi explained.

City officials are confident that the festival will resume, perhaps with some changes, as soon as it is feasible.
