CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS BUSINESS RETENTION POLICY;  COVID-19 RELIEF PLAN IS FIRST PHASE

 The Balcones Heights City Council adopted a new Business Retention Policy during its June 22, 2020 City Council meeting.

The new policy is designed to provide assistance to businesses that have operated a bricks and mortar business in Balcones Heights for at least six months. The policy includes a provision that allows the City to award grants that provide assistance in emergency situations.   The policy reads, in part:

  “Business retention grants may be awarded to offset emergency circumstances suffered by an individual business operator and/or property. Emergencies may include natural disaster, or other circumstances that may significantly interfere with the business operator to maintain normal business operations.  Emergency Relief Grants will be awarded/approved by City Council and administered by staff.“

Following the adoption of the Business Retention Policy, City Council approved a COVID-19 Business Relief Grant programThe City’s current fiscal year budget has allotted $20,000 for business grants.  That funding will be used to fund the business relief grants.  Individual grants to businesses will not exceed $2,500.
