We are committed to providing excellent customer service and information to homeowners, business owners, developers, builders, contractors, architects and engineers relative to development, construction, reconstruction and code enforcement in Balcones Heights.
This department is responsible for various activities and functions of development
Community Development is responsible for review and permitting of all construction and development projects within the city, the performance of related inspections, stormwater management, signage and development projects.
Other functions include enforcement of adopted city ordinances and state regulations relating to building, zoning, subdivision development, signs, health and property maintenance codes to ensure the public safety and welfare of the community. Approval of development projects and requests for exception or variance to City ordinances are considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment as authorized by local ordinance and state law.
In addition to permits, inspections, and stormwater managment the department maintains current maps of the City to include zoning, sewer, water and streets as well as flood plain maps, property maps, construction plans and utility drawings.
