National Police Week May 13-19, 2018
Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day May 15, 2017
On April 30, 2018, Mayor Suzanne de Leon presented a Proclamation naming May 15, 2018 Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week May 13-19, 2018.
WHEREAS, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed the first proclamation recognizing May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of individuals is important to the prosperity of families and communities; and
WHEREAS, police officers throughout our communities are dedicated to protecting and serving neighborhoods, schools, and families; and
WHEREAS, police officers risk their lives each and every day in order to ensure public safety and enforce the laws of the land; and
WHEREAS, the Balcones Heights community value the courage and devotion of our local police, as our collective prosperity depends on the integrity with which our law enforcement officers maintain peace and security; and
WHEREAS, National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day are opportunities to honor officers who have fallen in the line of duty, and recognize the sacrifices made by the families of those officers and the families of those who continue to protect and serve our communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Suzanne de Leon, do hereby recognize May 13-19, 2018, as NATIONAL POLICE WEEK, and May 15, 2018, as PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY, and publicly salute the service of law enforcement officers in our community and in communities across the nation.
